In this podcast, Jeffrey Anderzhon, FAIA, discusses the benefits of single-occupancy rooms in homes for the elderly. In addition to benefits for the residents and families, staff members and others invested in such facilities have seen a significant cut in various financial, health, and social costs when facilities have single-occupancy rooms. Throughout the interview, Anderzhon references information from Dr. Margaret P. Caulkin’s article "Exploring the Cost and Value of Private Versus Shared Bedrooms in Nursing Homes," published in the April edition of The Gerontologist, and from Design for Aging: Post Occupancy Evaluations, a publication of the AIA Design for Aging Knowledge Community available through the AIA Bookstore.
