Historic Resources Committee
|
 |
The mission of the AIA Historic Resources Committee (HRC) is to
identify, understand, and help preserve our architectural heritage
in the United States and throughout the world, as well as to
promote the role of the historic preservation architect in the
preservation of historic buildings both within the profession and
in the larger society.
The oldest continually functioning committee of the American
Institute of Architects, the Historic Resources Committee currently
consists of approximately 4,800 architects from the private and
public sectors who share an interest, expertise, and/or career
focus in historic preservation. The HRC disseminates knowledge and
information through conferences, workshops, Web-based publications,
and AIA convention programs.
As sustainability becomes a more urgent social and environmental
priority, a larger percentage of the work of architects includes
existing structures. As a result, preservation has moved into the
mainstream of our communal, cultural, and economic interests. The
HRC fosters and sustains the role of the architect as an expert
leader in historic preservation by offering an array of knowledge
resources in preservation practice, technology, and
education.
HRC members monitor and manage the balance between philosophical
ideals and business realities and serve as liaison to a variety of
allied preservation organizations, agencies, and programs. The
interdisciplinary culture of HRC educational events enhances the
quality of the knowledge shared and provides sponsors with unique
opportunities to reach all decision-makers in the historic
preservation industry.
HRC members and their allies throughout the design and construction
industries are a highly qualified audience of prospective customers
and business partners. The HRC welcomes as sponsors companies that
share its commitment to design excellence in historic
preservation.
